The Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup is an exciting new competition that started at 2014, which acts as a feeder series to the world of motorcycle racing. The project aims to give riders from the Asian region a formal path into competitive road racing with its third edition this year.
Led in-part by renowned and successful talent scout Alberto Puig, responsible for such talents as Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa and the leader of the successful MotoGP™ Academy, the 2016 schedule for the third edition of the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup has been revealed, featuring 12 races on Honda NSF250R Moto3™ machines.
Run by Dorna, the organizers of the MotoGP™ World Championship and the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, as well as co-organizer of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, the competition will provide a spotlight for the most Run by Dorna, the organizers of the MotoGP™ World Championship and the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship, as well as co-organi¬zer of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, the competition provides a spotlight for the most talented young riders in Asia. The 2016 season sees Kaito Toba (JPN), Ai Ogura (JPN) and Ayumu Sasaki (JPN) competing in the Red Bull Rookies Cup and also present in the Asia Talent Team in FIM CEV with five riders from SAATC earlier editions Andi Farid Izdihar (INA), Kazuki Masaki (JPN), Nakarin Atiratphuvapat (THA), Kaito Toba (JPN) and Ayumu Sasaki (JPN).
The 22 talents who made it through the pre-selection event at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit in October 2013 will race in Qatar (Losail), Indonesia (Sentul), China (Zhuhai), Japan (Motegi) and Malaysia (Sepang) – either on MotoGP™ weekends or in independent events.
The season started in February in Spain (Motorland Aragon) with a four day test where riders wereable to ride for the first time the Honda NSF250R Moto3 bikes.
The Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup organisation provides all-encom¬passing support to riders with a full, professional infrastructure meeting international racing standards but also managing all the logistics involved in running a pan-Asian series. The Sepang International Circuit, globally recognised for its high standards, also play a key role in the project hosting two events and a summer two-day test.
