The Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup is the prime feeder series to the world of motorcycle racing from the Asian region, with riders from Australia and New Zealand also eligible for the championship. The project started in 2014 and aims to give riders from the Asian and Australian regions a formal path into competitive road racing.
Led in-part by talent scout Alberto Puig, responsible for such talents as Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa, the competition sees Asia’s stars of the future participate in a multi-race series on Honda Moto3™ machines.
Run by Dorna, the organizers of the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship and the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, as well as co-organizer of the Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup, the competition provides a spotlight for the most talented young riders in Asia and the Pacific region.
Despite being only in its fourth year, the championship is already reaping dividends, with talented 2015 winner Ayumu Sasaki having won the 2016 Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup, earning him a full time entry into the Moto3™ World Championship in 2017.
